The wise control themselves

Udakañhi nayanti nettikā, usukārā namayanti tejanaṃ;

Dāruṃ namayanti tacchakā, attānaṃ damayanti paṇḍitā.

Irrigators regulate the waters;

fletchers straighten the arrow shaft;

carpenters shape the wood;

the wise control themselves.
